Part IV: Evaluation

It is essential to determine whether or not this technology vision is actually effective at improving student understanding. There are a number of tools and strategies that can quickly provide teachers with a wealth of data that proves whether or not this digital classroom is effective.
The first means that can be used to determine effectiveness has to do with general conversations with students. Students are very reliable in honestly explaining what they thought did or did not work. If students are generally feeling better about their understanding of the content as well as their technical capabilities it is normally a pretty accurate sign of positive success. To accompany the more traditional approach, students would take a pre-test before they begin the class (never seeing the results), then take that exact same test again. Assuming that students generally possess similar capabilities to students from previous years, the level of improvement would then be compared to other year’s pre-test & post test results. If there is a greater improvement in scores then the plan can be deemed successful. As seen in this tutorial above, Googleforms could be a great evaluation tool that can help compile data from students to assess this technology implentation's effectiveness.
Another means of assessment has to do with comparing the performance on district common assessments from year to year. Not only can I measure my students by the year to year comparison but I could also compare their performance to classes that do not have the access to the same technological tools that compose this vision. Again, assuming the students in my class and other classes possess similar capabilities, if the classes with the computer tools perform better that could be another clue of the vision’s success.
Teachers can also give exit surveys using Google forms that probe whether or not students felt they had improved with their historical skills, technological capabilities, enjoyment of the class, or historical understanding. This approach gives hard data that can be easily analyzed to determine the technology vision’s success. The final evaluation relates directly back to the goal. If students can express their understanding of identity and how it is related to the resulting future effects then the vision will have been a success. Previous Page Next Page |
